Text Messaging for Nightclubs & Bars
Text Message Marketing for Bars and Nightclubs, the perfect match!
The band finishes a song, and announces that the bar is giving away a free t-shirt to one person who sends a text message to the Bar's keyword in the next 2 minutes.
Hundreds of customers grab their phones and send in a message. After a few minutes, the winner receives a text message telling them they won.
As the owner of that bar, you have just added hundreds of customers to your database that you can send messages to about your business.
Ideas:
- Contests: Let random patrons win "no cover" entry if they send a text while waiting in line.
- Live Code: Have a Keyword customers can text to find out who's performing.
- Send a Coupon: "Ladies Night", or other special events.
- Custom API: Let our programmers develop something specific to your business.
Text Message Marketing - 2 Reasons It Will Work For Your Business
"Dude, that's not what we do! We don't make money from people texting...we are only successful when our clients are." This is how the conversation used to go with most of my friends and family that hadn't quite grasped what it is we do. That was until recently.
It's not that I blame them for not "getting it". Text Message Marketing and Text Message Alerts have only recently emerged as the defacto marketing medium for small to medium sized business owners. It's an industry that didn't even exist a few years ago, but now it's literally exploding before our eyes.
Why has the trend caught on so fast? What is so appealing about text message marketing?
There is a simple answer to these questions. They are...Value and Access.
Value is an arbitrary concept determined by each individual, but with text message marketing that value can be quantified by the results the business owner receives and by the number of subscribers each text message alert campaign has. That value of each marketing campaign can now be tracked and stacked against all other marketing efforts and the results make it clear to the business owner, there is no better way to market and advertise.
When the light comes on, it really shines...
I have an older brother who is extremely sharp in business; he's very well known and considered an expert in business start up in the technology industry. He's the kind of guy you think would catch this text message marketing concept from a mile away and would then have a million and one applications for it, you would think.
That was not the case. I don't know if it was my lack of ability to clearly explain to him the benefit of text messaging to a business owner or just the simplicity of how it works didn't jell with his advanced thinking, either way he didn't get it.
A few days ago I got a call from my brother (the genius one). He was so excited... well, excited for him. He says to me, "Your texting thing works great for middle America! I get it, people can text in and get an alert or deal or some sort of special immediately on their phone!" It was like the light had just come on! I said that's it exactly. What made him finally see it? He had walked into a Chick-fil-A restaurant and saw a table tent that said Text CFA to 411247 to receive Free Stuff and Special Offers. He tried it, and the light came on!
Of course I went on to explain to him that Text Message Marketing and Text Message Alerts were great for that application. The customer gets immediate value and the business gets unprecedented access to the customer's most personal communication device, their cell phone.
But that's not where the story ends...Text Messaging is now being used in almost every aspect of business and it's embraced by thousands of organizations to create community, mobilize people, drive traffic to events and websites, save money, provide user generated content like weather reports and movie show times. There is seamless integration into existing software programs through API portals, it's all possible now. You need only look as far as the recent Obama campaign to see the dramatic effect text messaging has had on the country.
As one of the founders of MobiMark, a text message marketing company, I have been astounded and blown away by the results our clients have when they use text messaging to enhance their marketing efforts. I've had the opportunity to personally hear from business owners across the country that have used MobiMark and text messaging to increase sales, drive traffic, communicate more effectively, they are truly using this technology to grow their businesses. What started out as a way for a pizza shop to send its weekly special to a database has evolved into the most powerful and effective marketing medium on the planet.
One thing we observed from the beginning is the always on factor of the mobile phone. When someone walks out the door in the morning they take 3 things with them...their wallet, their keys and their cell phone. At church on Sunday an announcement is made to turn off your cell phone and the same thing happens at the movies, our mobile phone's are always with us. We give our clients the vision of putting their message into their customers pockets whenever they want and then we give them the tools to make that happen.
SMS Text Messaging is a breakthrough communication medium that continues to expand over 250% year after year. A study from Emarketer shows that for the average mobile user in the US, the number of text messages placed is greater than the number of mobile calls placed. Businesses are now connecting to their target market and the customer is responding. I have never seen response rates this high in any other marketing medium. We continue to see 12-30% response rates and as high as 95% read rates!
There are a number of factors that are driving this industry and many reasons businesses are adopting text message marketing as part of their marketing strategy, but certainly two factors emerge as beacons that should make the light come on for you. They are Value and Access.

Text Message Alerts & Marketing for Churches
Text Message Alerts & Marketing for Churches, by Savanah Brannan
Text message marketing is the newest, fastest way to advertise for many types of businesses, now even churches are using Text Messaging. This modern marketing technique can be used for more than just trying to sell a product or draw in costumers. It can be used to inform and remind. Here's how!
You can create different groups
Churches can have multiple keywords/groups for different groups within the church. For example, a high school group could have the keyword "HSchool" and get reminders about gatherings, etc. The main congregation would have keyword "Church" and that group would be alerted about service times and other important church information. This gives the church the opportunity to reach different people about different things at different times!
Special Events
A church could use a blast text to remind members about special events, new service times, or guest speakers. This allows the church to get the message they want out within the time slot they need and know that the message will be read. Text Messages have over a 90% read rate!
Questions
Many people who attend church will agree that many question pop into your head during service. Often times it can be a bit embarrassing to ask a question out loud especially if you are new to the church. Text messaging allows members to ask questions safely and securely. The pastor or any person within the church can review the question straight from a computer then either answer them immediately from the pulpit or answer them later through a blog or later services.
Text Messages vs. Hand-Outs
Church Youth Groups need to communicate with parents, this is often times attempted by paper hand-outs or by e-mail. Most kids don't think about giving paper hand-outs to their parents, they think about how cool a paper airplane it will be! Also, e-mail has a very low read rate. Over 90% of text messages are read. Text Messages almost guarantee your message will be read!
Church Camps
Many churches have used text message alerts during camps and have drastically improved their communication. At church camps, most likely everyone is away from their computers, but they have their cell phone with them! Among other things, pastors and leaders can send meeting times, prayer requests, etc. all through text message and know that their message will be read
A group can also be set up for parents while their children are away to camp. It helps remind parents when to drop off and pick up their children, and most importantly it lets parents get updates throughout the week(s) of camp! They can hear about what activities are happening or what the students are learning. It's extremely useful for pastors and leaders to keep parents informed.
Case Study
Recently a forward thinking church in Arizona used text message marketing for a program called 40 Days of Purpose. A text message was sent out everyday for forty days straight to those who had opted-in. The text contained a virtue and purpose for that day. This church was able to use one of the coolest, easiest ways to communicate and has created some serious buzz about their church! It's easy and any church could have the opportunity to create their own buzz using text message marketing.
Public Information
Churches are always looking for ways to market their church and get more people to hear the message. A church could market their keyword and they auto response of the keyword would give the person service times, website and location of the church. At this same time, the church has captured this person's information and they are now part of the database, so on a Saturday night, the church can send out a message reminding people of the Sunday service times, etc.
Text Message Marketing is now a great application for Churches to get their information out! Restaurants, Sports Team and TV Shows are not the only application for text message marketing, Churches are now seeing great results.
